Dr. Horrible and Other Horrible Stories

A few weeks ago I pick this up from my local comic shop. I have been so busy that I have only been able to read it now. If you are a big fan of Dr. Horrible like me ( my bbm ring is the theme to Dr. Horrible) then you will want to pick this up.

It's made up of five short comics based on the four main characters and the Evil League of Evil. Its 78 pages and costs 10 dollars US. Its written by Zack Whedon who is the bother of the series creator, Joss Whedon who you may know from shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly. The art is done by different people.

I liked some of the art and some of it was just ok. It's generally in a comic style and not as much a realism style. I like a more realism style so that could be why some of them I found just ok. It was a quick read, but I do not know how much re-readability it has, I could maybe see my self re-reading it once or twice. The stories are pretty simple and I got pretty much all I needed from it on the first go. That being said the writing for what it is was great. Do not expect a deep and complex story like Watchmen, this comic collection was created to be a fun read (like the show). The characters say and do things that you would expect them to do. For example Captain Hammer tells his fans that anyone good at math or science will become a villain and you should report them because of this.

As well as the characters acting the way they would in a show this collection fills in a lot of back store on them. Like how Moist got his power and who Johnny Snow is. For fans who have watch the show many times and know it well they will see how things in the show came to be. We see were Dr. Horrible got his idea for the freeze ray and that Dr. Horrible had been working on his catch phase for a while.

If you are a fan of Dr. Horrible this collection is well worth your ten bucks. If you have never seen the show I would pass on it.... or watch the show and then get it.
