Good Tron Interview

This is a good interview and feature on the new Tron movie. It talks about the suits they wore and much more. Enjoy

So Say We All
A few weeks ago I posted the vidoe called "Banelings" by KurtHugoSchneider / HuskyStarcraft. Husky casts Starcraft II games. This is their second video. It's not as good as the first one, but still funny.

Also they are now calling their band "Nerd Alert"

Hobbit Movie Timeline

Here is a Hobbit movie timeline that shows you all the issues going into making the movie... so far. I noticed that David Tennant may have been Bilbo which would have been sweet, but Martin Freeman will be good as well.

Level 85... Achievement Unlocked

So yes, Cataclysm has been out for 22 days, and yes I know I way late to the level 85 party, but I dont care...  After quest grinding for about 20 hours, the last mob felt a kill shot crit and died, granting me my last 5k exp. ding!

I would have loved to get into Cataclysm a lot sooner, but due to university finals and just loads of work, it had to wait.  So I know this is a late review on the game, but I really think its worth the wait.

My main goal when I logged in, after being away for two months, was to get to 85 asap.  So I didn't bother with my professions, gear or anything.  I planned to go straight to the quest grinding.  Soon after starting the grind I found myself actually enjoying the way the quests were laid out.  It had more of a story line feel, and less of a "do a bunch of random things for exp" type feel.  And the cinematics were an awesome touch.  However, I did say focused, I needed levels.  So as soon as I leveled, I went to the next area, leaving the epic story line half done.  However, by the time I got to Uldum, the story line got the better of me.  I found myself ignoring the fact that I had leveled to 84 (and could have gone to Twilight Highlands) and sayed in Uldum to finished the entire quest line.  its was totally worth it.  And just a random note... yay! for better drop rates on quest items :)

At a certain point while I was leveling I felt like seeing the new dungeons.   After figuring out that you actually have to find the entrance to the place before can use Dungeon Finder, and after waiting 30 minutes as a dps to get in... I found, again, it was totally worth the wait.  And again I let curiosity get better of me, and spent about an hour finding all the other dungeons, and then numerous hours doing them.

There is no doubt that Cataclysm bought about tons of changes to the game.  But lets think about it, WoW has been around for a really really long time (as far as MMO's go).  And some players have been playing since the days of vanilla.  So, yes, changes do mean you have new things to get use to, and yes, you might have to learn everything again, but that's really half the fun.

Overall I do think WoW was due for an over haul, and I honestly think blizzard did a great job.

Death of the Stacys

Death of the Stacys is one of the biggest events in Spider-Man history. It covers the death of both Captain Stacy and Peter Parkers girlfriend Gwen Stacy. These events happened in 1970 and is one of the markers in the transition between Silver and Bronze age comics.

I will not give away to much about this TP since its a must read for any Spider-Man fan and for that matter any comic fan. I will say is that this is Spider-Man at its best. We see Spider-Man go through highs and lows in both of his lives. We also see the more gritter comics that Stan Lee and the people at Marvel were known for. Death of loved ones, problems at work and drug use. These story lines have always made Marvel's heroes more relatable to the reader.

This TP collects Amazing 88-92 and 121-121. The writing in this comic is very good. The highlight of the writing has to be the death of Gwen herself. The question as to how it happened was so well done that we still do not know the answer. Spider-Man's comments are one of his trademarks and they are alive and well here in this collection, but maybe a little toned down. The art is pretty good as well. Its different that todays and some may find it "old fashion", but I like it. I think the best part is the use of detailed drawings of faces to show emotions or the state of a character. This comic also has good re-readability because its so key to Spider-Man's past and is well written. The one poor thing about this TP is that it cost $20 US and $32 Can. It has a nice hard cover, but that does not really make up for the price. There are cheaper TP of this collection out there for those on a budget.

Over all this is a must read.

Marvel/DC Season 3: Zero Hour #5

Happy Birthday Stan Lee- Excelsior

Stan Lee is 88 today. I case you do not know who he is. He created Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, the AvengersIron Man, the HulkThorDaredevilDoctor Strange and many more. These are some of the most popular comic characters ever made. The revolutionary thing about these characters is that they are so relatable to the common reader and this is what Stan is know for. Not only is Stan a comic godfather and legend, but at 88 he is still appearing in movies, work every day, going to comic shows and Tweeting. How many 88 year olds do that.

There is no fitting tribute for someone as great a Stan, so how about a simply Spider-Man birthday cake and I must change for sign off to this.

Last night at some crazy late hour I was surfing the net and I found this video. It is so good, all the references in it are just great. Hard to say what my favorite is, but I think it might be "So Say We All". Other reference include: WOW, Dr Who, Star Wars, Star Trek, Zelda, Joss Whedon, Stan Lee and many more. As a side now the one dressed like Han was in the third season on "The Guild.

The Futurama is here!

Hey there, Ryan here. I am the newest contributor to the Palantir blog.  For my first blog I figured I would take a few minutes talking about my favorite animated series, Futurama.  For this post we will stick to the first volume which covers episodes 1-13.  First for those that do not know, a little bit about the series itself.  This series takes place, for the most part in the year 3000 and onward.  It follows the adventures of a pizza delivery boy from the year 2000 by the name of Phillip J. Fry, a foul mouthed robot named Bender, and a one eyed alien named Leela. It was created in part by Matt Groening, the creator of the Simpsons.  OK so that's the basics, bottom line, very funny.  Now for volume 1 specifically. I have always enjoyed intelligent humor and that is one area in which Futurama does not disappoint. In fact, due to a few of the writers having math degrees, there are jokes that have went beyond my own understanding and only by either looking up the reference online or watching the commentary can I understand and appreciate. Thankfully most of the jokes do not take a math degree to understand but some of the jokes do take a bit of thinking in order to really get.

Probably my favorite episode in this volume is episode 9 "Hell is Other Robots, where Bender attempts to put "his sinful life behind him," and introduces the Robot Devil.  This episode guest stars the Beastie boys and contains a "musical extravaganza" that is as clever as it is catchy.  As for the commentaries, they are I must say, OK at best.  You do get some interesting facts from them, however, a large portion of the time is spent with them simply being silly, which can get kinda annoying when they past by the one part of the episode you wanted to know about with them laughing about what they just said.  As for the box art, that is pretty good.  each of the 3 DVD cases in the set are actually one long picture which you can see if you put them side by side and they contain snippets from most, if not all, of the episodes.  So there we go, I'll be back later with the other volumes/movies. For those that prefer a straight numbering system, to summarize.

Volume 1:
episodes: 9/10
box art: 8/10
Commentary: 5/10

Until next time,

So long, and Thanks for all the Fish.

'Twas the nocturnal segment

My dad found this a number of years ago, I thought it was good. Enjoy

'Twas the nocturnal segment of the diurnal period preceding the annualyuletide celebration, and throughout our place of residence, kinetic activity was not in evidence among the possessors of this potential, including that species of domestic rodent known as Mus musculus. Hosiery was meticulously suspended from the forward edge of the wood-burning caloric apparatus, pursuant to our anticipatory pleasure regarding an imminent visitation from an eccentric philanthropist among whose folkloric appellations is the honorific title of St. Nicholas.

The prepubescent siblings, comfortably ensconced in their respective accommodations of repose, were experiencing subconscious visual hallucinations of variegated fruit confections moving rhythmically through their cerebra. My conjugal partner and I, attired in our nocturnal cranial coverings, were about to take slumbrous advantage of the hibernal darkness when upon the avenaceous exterior portion of the grounds there ascended such a cacophony of dissonance that I felt compelled to arise with alacrity from my place of repose for the purpose of ascertaining the precise source thereof. Hastening to the casement, I forthwith opened the barriers sealing the fenestration, noting thereupon that the lunar brilliance without, reflected as it was on the surface of a recent crystalline aqueous precipitation, might be said to rival that of the solar meridian itself - thus permitting my incredulous optical sensor to peruse a miniature airborne runnered conveyance drawn by an octet of diminutive specimens of the genus Rangifer, piloted by a miniscule, aged chauffeur so ebullient and nimble that it became instantly apparent to me that he was indeed our anticipated caller. With his undulate motive power traveling at what may possibly have been more vertiginous velocity than patriotic alar predators, he vociferated loudly, expelled breath musically through contracted labia, and addressed each of the octet by his or her respective cognomen ... "Now Dasher, now Dancer..." et al. - guiding them to the uppermost exterior level of our abode, through which structure I could readily distinguish the concatenations of each of the 32 cloven pedal extremities.
As I retracted my cranium from its erstwhile location, and was performing a 180-degree pivot, our distinguished visitant achieved - with utmost celerity and via a downward leap - entry by way of the smoke passage. He was clad entirely in animal pelts soiled by the ebon residue from the oxidations of carboniferous fuels which had accumulated on the walls thereof. His resemblance to a street vendor I attributed largely to the plethora of assorted playthings which he bore dorsally in a commodious cloth receptacle. His orbs were scintillant with reflected luminosity, while his submaxillary dermal indentations gave every evidence of engaging amiability. The capillaries of his molar regions and nasal aptenance were engorged with blood which suffused the subcutaneous layers, the former approximating the coloration of Albion's floral emblem, the latter that of the Prunus avium, or sweet cherry. His amusing sub- and supralabials resembled nothing so much as a common loop knot, and their ambient hirstute facial adornment appeared like small, tabular and columnar crystals of frozen water.
Clenched firmly between his incisors was a smokingpiece whose gray fumes, forming a tenuous ellipse about his occiput, were suggestive of a decorative seasonal circlet of holly. His visage was wider than it was high, and when he waxed audibly mirthful, his corpulent abdominal region undulated in the manner of impectinated fruit syrup in a hemispherical container.
Without utterance and with dispatch, he commenced filling the aforementioned hosiery with articles of merchandise extracted from his aforementioned previously dorsally transported cloth receptacle. Upon completion of this task, he executed an abrupt about-face, placed a single manual digit in lateral juxtaposition to his olfactory organ, inclined his cranium forward in a gesture of leave-taking, and forthwith affected his egress by renegotiating (in reverse) the smoke passage. He then propelled himself in a short vector onto his conveyance, directed a musical expulsion of air through his contracted oral sphincter to the antlered quadrupeds of burden, and proceeded to soar aloft in a movement hitherto observable chiefly among the seed-bearing portions of a common weed. But I overheard his parting exclamation, audible immediately prior to his vehiculation beyond the limits of visibility: "Ecstatic yuletides to the planetary constituence, and to that self-same assemblage my sincerest wishes for a salubriously beneficial and gratifyingly pleasurable period between sunset and dawn."

A Few Thoughts on the Winter Three

So about a month ago I wrote about the three movies that I was looking forward to in the winter movie season. I have now seen them all so I'm going to give you a few thoughts on them. I tried to keep the spoilers down, but if you have not see any of the three and do not like to know to much about a movie before you see it.... just be warned.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1:

Many people that I have talked to said that this was their favorite of all the HP movies. I do not know if its my favorite, but its close. The casting remains good. I think they got most of the main points of the books in. They may have changed a few little things, but you have to in a movie. The one thing that was weird is how they explain that death eater were able to find Harry in the coffee house. Another thing that was different, but good was the little cartoon to explain the story of the deathly hallows. This was a great film and a must for an Harry fan.

8/10

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader: Dec 10th

Of the three this was my least favorite. It was better than PC, but not as good as TLWAW. They had to do a lot of change to the story, this was due to the way Lewis wrote the story. They took things that maybe a page or two in the book and made it a major plot point. That also put some of the islands together. As well they made temptation a large part of the story that Lewis did. That being said it kept most of Lewis ideas and themes. Simon Pegg was good as Reepicheep and I thought I saw him a one of the deck hands while they were fighting the sea monster. Also Eustace Scrubb was played pretty well, even if they did keep him in his different state for longer that the book did. Over all still worth seeing

5/10

TRON: Legacy:

I saw this with our "End of Line" friend and his review will give you a lot of more information (yes we did watch the 1st Tron before). I will say that this movie lived up to its look. From the CGI characters which looked good most of the time (no bad Prof. X) to the world inside the computer it all looked good. I also liked how they used 3D for the computer world and 2D for ours. They used the 3D as a part of the movie not as an extra to make it look cool, it maybe the best use of 3D I have seen. It did keep to the feel of Tron and the acting was fine, but not Michael Sheen and Jeff Bridges best performance. The story it self was good. Olivia Wilde was surprisingly good in it and her short black hair made her look even more attractive that she already was. This movie is also a good movie and like HP a must see.

7/10

Tron Legacy Review

I just got back from watching Tron Legacy a few hours ago, and I must say, it was rather good. I can't really say if it was better or worse than what I was expecting, there was so much hype for this movie, it was ridiculous. I try not to get caught up in movie hype though, so I guess I would have to say it exceeded my expectations, just a bit, only because it had more to the story than I had thought there would be.

Alright, I'm gonna break up this review into separate parts, (plot, visuals, etc.), so here we go. Oh, and don't worry, no spoilers.

Plot/Story - 8/10
When I say plot and story, I'm not just judging for it's ability to tell a good story, but also it's relation and connection to the first Tron, which it did very well, and not just with little side references that only true Tron fans would be able to pick out (although they did have those, so bonus!). They actually gave good reason for going back to the grid. I can't really go too much into this without spoiling anything, so let me just say that it doesn't disappoint.

Characters - 7/10
No complaints here, they had a good combo of new and old characters. The old ones were done well by their respected actors, and as were the new ones. Jeff Bridges did a good job keeping the same Flynn attitude and personality from the first Tron, while also toning it down a bit; with the movie taking place 27 years later (I think?), Flynn would have aged, so this is understandable. One character that stood out (in a good way) was Castor, played by Michael Sheen. he was this fun eccentric character that resembles David Bowie. He was not in the movie a whole lot, but he was entertaining.

Visuals - 8/10
The visuals for this movie were amazing. And not just the special effects, those were a given, you go into the movie expecting good effects. The imagery was very good as well. Some shots, combined with perfectly timed music and sound effects, just drew you into the movie. As for the effects side, I was pleased, they held up to what I was expecting. Lots of cool light vehicles, and light effects and such. Something that was really neat was what they did for the character Clu. Basically he is a program copy of Kevin Flynn... young Kevin Flynn, so they had to do some movie magic to do this. They actually had to use cgi to make a young Jeff Bridges face, which worked... more or less. Sometimes it looked like a real face, but at other times, you could tell it was cgi, but overall it was good.  If I had to nit-pick about something though, it would be the part when Sam is pulled into the computer, it just feels like they skimped out in this area. The original Tron did the whole computer, grid scan thing, and it looked pretty cool, so I was really excited to see how they would do it, but it just kinda distorted the screen and flashed, then he was in. Oh well, the rest of the movie had amazing effects.

Music - 9/10
What can I say about the music besides AWESOME! I am a huge Tron fan (in case you couldn't tell), and I am also a huge Daft Punk fan, so I couldn't have been happier having the two combined. I think Daft Punk was the perfect choice, and did a spectacular job. I've been listening to the soundtrack almost nonstop since it came out. As I said earlier, the music just fits. It is all very electronic and, well, computer'y. If your not a huge electronic or techno fan, then maybe it won't be your favorite, but I love it. I also enjoyed seeing Daft Punk making a cameo appearance in the movie, that was a plus. I will be getting the actual collectors edition soundtrack for Christmas, so I will talk about that another day.

Overall, I give this movie a 8/10. I highly recommend it.

End Of Line

Tron Hotel

With Tron coming out today I thought this would be pretty cool and shows the impact of this movie even before its out. Its a Tron suite at a ice hotel in Sweden.

Rob's Blog for December 15th

Here is my blog for December 15th, enjoy

So Say We All

WOW Wednesday- Out of game stuff

So we all know that WOW makes 100's millions of dollars very month on in game stuff, but what about all of its out of game stuff. A quick look on Amazon shows over 6000 hits on "World of Warcraft" and on ebay over 10000 hits. All this stuff ranges from card games, t-shirt, mugs, action figures and so on. So here are a few that I would want to get.

Alliance T-shirt - it comes on Alliance and Horde. I'm a big fan of t-shirts

Steins- got to love a big stein. I think beer tastes better from a stein

Plush Murloc- I do not know if I would get it, but its pretty cool

Books and comics- some of the books and comic might be good.

The Thor Game

Here is the trailer for the Thor game base on the movie. I normally do not like video game movies or movie videos games, but since I'm a big Thor fan I will give it a go.
